]]> The Kanaria Festival is the highlight of the cultural events organized in Parga and collectively called Pargina. It takes place every year in Parga on the eve of the 15th of August and its theme is religious and historical.

The night before the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) on August 15, people go by boat or canoe to the island of Panagia located opposite the city of Parga. Boiled beef with broth, lemon and wine is served there after the evening service. The broth is distributed to all pilgrims, locals and foreigners who attend the custom every year.

Fireworks light up the sky and traditional music and lots of dancing complete the evening.

On the morning of August 15, the faithful participate following the caravan and head by boat to the island of Panagia, creating a small fjord.
